VENUE: Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies
ΟPENING: 9 November 2024
RATING: 12+
“Don Carlos” was first presented in August 1787 and is based on a 17th-century French romantic novel. Using 16th-century Spain as a backdrop, Schiller challenges the absolutism of his own time, advocating for freedom of thought and the ideas of the Enlightenment. Through a particularly complex plot and multi-dimensional characters, the author revives critical, timeless concerns, developing dialectically the conflict between authoritarian power and free action, despotism and disobedience, moral imperative and new ideals, idealism and reality.
